The Charming Town of Orvieto

Italy, Orvieto, Umbria

A funiculare train takes you up to the tufa hilltop of Orvieto, a city that dates back to Etruscan civilization. Known now for it’s boar meat and wine, the town is great for a halfday visit from Rome. I’d suggest grabbing a panini with porchetta and a glass of Orvieto’s famous white wine to get a taste of the town. The cathedral is a must-see; it’s grey-striped interior and golden chapel are incredible and I must mention it’s facade is strikingly beautiful. From the edges of the tufa plateau, you get incredible views of the Umbrian countryside and it’s vineyards.
