“Amy, Amy, Amy…”

This “Listen” post I wanted to share one of my favorite artist’s of all time: Amy Winehouse. I am always in the mood to listen to her and “Frank” (2003) is my favorite album of her’s. Despite her incredible talent, poor Amy was a victim of drug and alcohol abuse and lost her life to alcohol intoxication 3 years ago on July 20th, 2011. It’s really unfortunate that someone with so much talent had to suffer through alcohol dependency, having her struggle and crisis publicized on international tabloids, and eventually lost her life to addiction.

She’s one of the artists who I’m sad I never had a chance to see live or even appreciate in the height of her popularity… In 2008, when she won 5 Grammys, I was 16 and passing around a soccer unbeknownst to all the good music out in the world.

Either way, I’m glad she has come into my life and that I’ve had the chance to discover her music and live performances. Here are a couple that I think really live up to and showcase her raw talent:

Cover of Donny Hathaway’s “A Song For You”, another jazz great who succumbed to the negative effects of fame…

Amy’s music is dark and emotional, and is telling of her struggle. It’s timeless and I hope to be spinning her records when I’m 80… seriously. RIP Lioness!

Any other Amy fans out there? What are your favorite songs?
