What I Learned About Myself After One Month of Daily Journaling

Wednesday, January 31, 2018

January has been an incredibly exciting month. With everything that was going on, I feel like I never had the chance to take a breath and soak it all in. Even when I’m exercising, my mind is running thinking about the things I have to do.

It’s super appropriate that I’ve started journaling daily because now I have the opportunity to go back and say, “Holy shit*, I did all that this month.” While this month I mainly wrote about things I’ve done, I also jot down my feelings. It’s great to go back and get a general mood for the month by reading over what you’ve written.

As I was looking back through my daily thoughts, I noticed a couple things really struck me and I actually learned a bit about myself. In no particular order, here they are:

  1. I basically spend everyday working or doing something along the lines of “working.” I’m starting to feel like I’m back in school where if I even had a moment to chill, I felt guilty. I start to think, “There must be something I’m forgetting…” Hopefully next month I can prioritize and choose to make time to truly relaxing.
  2. While I look back and think I felt really good this past month, there were a couple instances where I felt overwhelmed or tired and it was important enough to write it as my thought for the day. While stress is a part of everyone’s life, I’m going to make a conscious effort to improve my day to day stress management.
  3. I curse a lot. My entire January page is littered with it. And reading over it, I can’t say I’m proud of it… I admit cursing is a huge part of how I express myself, but I’m going to observe that more over the coming months.
  4. Finally, overall, life is very good. I am very happy, fulfilled, working on things that make me happy and building towards the future that I want.

So far this year, I can say this journal has been a great addition to my routine. While I did miss a couple days and would catch up the next morning/day, I’m glad I took this time to reflect and take a broader view of the start of the year.

I have already uploaded the February’s journal to my shop for download btw!

* There goes the cursing again!
