Lately I’ve been ridiculously obsessed with India ink. Since the repetition and difference series, I’ve continued to experiment with it by using a variety of tools and grounds.

With a new model assignment to be started this coming week, I chose to explore the possibilities of turning these two-dimensional pieces into 3-D sculptures. Folding has always been an interest of mine since I started playing around with origami as a kid, and combining it with the mechanic, yet organic, lines is pretty exciting to me. The line drawings themselves have a sculptural and voluminous quality.

Here are a couple examples of combining the ink and dry brush drawings with these pleated and chevron-like folds. I really enjoy the distortion that occurs as a result of this process.
